New Russell Substation

Overview
AltaLink is proposing to build a new substation called Russell in the Pincher Creek area as part of the larger Southern Alberta Transmission Reinforcement. This substation is proposed to be located next to TransAlta’s existing Castle River Substation.
New substation
Name: Russell 632S
Voltage: 138 kV (138,000 volts)
Size: 120 metres by 60 metres (394 by 147 feet)
Location: LSD 15 - Sec.35 - Twp.6 - Rge.1 - W5M
Transmission line work
AltaLink is proposing to reconfigure the existing 138 kV line in the area, called 170L, remove approximately 60 metres of the 170L line and salvage an existing 138 kV line, called 170AL.

| April/May 2010 | Notify and consult with stakeholders and landowners |
| June 2010 | File application with Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for regulatory review and approval |
| Q1 2011 | Start project construction if approval is granted by AUC |
| September 2011 | Complete project construction |
