Overview

The West Brooks to East Medicine Hat project is one of many pieces identified in SATR. The purpose of this reinforcement is to connect wind energy to Alberta’s electrical grid and to strengthen the transmission system in the area.

We have identified our preferred route and alternate routes for the new transmission line. AltaLink began consulting for this project in the spring of 2009. Through public consultation, AltaLink has received valuable stakeholder input that has helped us identify the preferred and alternate routes. AltaLink’s consultation program included six project open houses and more than 235 face-to-face meetings and 440 telephone conversations with stakeholders. Thank you for participating in our consultation process – your input is important to us.

Please note we have named the substations included in this project and the project name has changed to Cassils to Bowmanton.

The project includes:
• a new transmission line from west of Brooks to east of Medicine Hat
• a new substation located west of Brooks (Cassils Substation)
• a new substation located northeast of Medicine Hat (Bowmanton Substation)
